DJ Prutsky | The East-Western Phenomenon

Prutsky is said to come from Western Ukraine and to have made his way in the West through an unusual career: at the end of the 1990ies he left his home near Cernivci and crossed the border to Slovakia. There he worked for some time as agropilot. However, he was was not really successful there, some unconfirmed rumours tell that he used his agro-jet also for private purposes. One time Slovakian police caught him after he had landed on the main square of Kosice (which policemen did not regard as a legal thing). After this failure he moved further West and touched down in Vienna, Austria.

There he came to know the director of ORF (Austrian State Radio) Midwave program “Radio Vychod Vienna (RVV) – The megaphone of the East” by chance. The place of their meeting was unusual and the way they ended up making a working contract was the same: with a handshake on the toilet of a Kazakh restaurant in Vienna Prutsky was hired for Radio Vychod Vienna, where he started his career the next day. Working as cook, ward, security guard, assistant to the director etc. Finally the boss of RVV decided to challenge Prutsky in sending him back to Ukraine to check out the best Eastern Beats currently available on legal and other markets. Back from Ukraine, Prutsky presented fifteen (!) suitcases stuffed with music CDs from Ukraine to his boss.

That was the point which confirmed RVV-director – Mr. Z. - in his long made decision to make a DJ out of this strange multi-talent Prutsky. Immediately Z. went over to Ost-Klub, which is the most relevant club for lovers of Eastern European dancing music in Vienna and pushed the club-owners there to engage DJ Prutsky. Surprisingly, they agreed – and they did not regret this decision. Prutsky established his Klub Ukrajina there and became resident DJ within a remarkable short period of time.
In January 2007 Prutsky introduced Ostklub-Clubbers to his very first CD “Dniprovskyy Overdrive”: it includes some of the most appreciated Ukrainian & Russian speed dance tracks, plus: special bonus tracks reflecting on Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine and Prutsky`s past as agropilot, security guard and CD-scout throughout all parts of Ukraine.

On August 18, 2007 DJ Prutsky played in Italy for the first time. He took part in Ariano Folk Festival near Naples. The line-up contained World Music highlights like Gogol Bordello, Kultur Shock and Boom Pam. An audience of more than 3000 went crazy by dancing to the Eastern speed trax of DJ Prutsky. The venue led to a management cooperation with NOMAD MUSIC, the leading agency in Southern Italy. Follow-up Prutsky gigs are due to be scheduled.
